Let's keep this simple. It's 2022, meaning that with an overwhelming sense of choices on the internet, it can be hard to decide even the smallest of things. Here at Viron, one of our most frequently asked questions is "Should I donate to them?" And while the answer is, most of the time, yes, it can still be a daunting decision. You want to make sure that your money is going somewhere that will use it in the most efficient and beneficial way possible.

So, today we will be going over the best organizations to donate your money to this Earth Day.

1. Surfrider Foundation

We will admit, we are a bit biased on this one. As lovers of the ocean (and surfing), the Surfrider Foundation has always been a top pick for us when it comes to contributing to a healthier ocean.

mission| The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network.

They fight for plastic pollution, ocean protection, beach access, coastal preservation, and clean water. Through them, you are able to volunteer [i.e. beach cleanups], donate [i.e. for coastal preservation], and "take action" by contacting your local officials.

2. Sierra Club

One of the most well-known organizations for climate change. They work in every aspect to provide education and resources to help change the way we view climate emergencies.

mission| The Sierra Club is the most enduring and influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. They amplify the power of their millions of members and supporters to defend everyone's right to a healthy world.

"To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;

To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;

To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives."

3. Clean Air Task Force

Did you know more than 70% of the emissions that cause global warming come from our energy system? Every year, the global energy system produces almost 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions, pushing our planet toward irreversible climate tipping points.

mission| They are a non-traditional, fact-based, environmental organization that builds momentum for solutions based on scientific evidence, intellectual integrity, and pragmatism. Their mission is to push the technology and policy changes needed to achieve a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost. Their end goal is to achieve zero-emissions energy, waste, agriculture, and forest management systems by 2050.

4. American Rivers

An effort that is sometimes overlooked is the preservation of all waterways. Rivers, specifically, are an item of interest that is often overlooked. With American Rivers, they work towards protecting, cleaning, and enhancing the way we have treated our American river systems. Restoring, improving, and protecting.

mission| "To achieve our vision of a nation of clean, healthy rivers that sustain and connect us, American Rivers protects wild rivers, restores damaged rivers, and conserves clean water for people and nature. In achieving our mission, American Rivers is guided by six core values: Passion, Integrity, Teamwork, Commitment, Balance, and Diversity, equity, and inclusion."

5. The Nature Conservancy

One that I have heard good things about, though I have yet to donate to, is The Nature Conservancy. Guided by science, TNC creates innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world's toughest challenges so that people and nature can thrive together.

mission| "Our mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. To achieve this, we must boldly address the biodiversity and climate crises over the next decade. By maximizing our ability to effect change between now and 2030, we can shape a brighter future for people and our planet."

As always, donate what you can and do not feel bad about not being able to donate as much as someone else. We all have our personal obligations that come before the luxury of donations. Don't forget to keep healthy and happy.

Let's uplift eachother.
